Business Bay is an AED 2-billion project with five phases. The construction of the community of Business Bay first began in October 2013 with phases one and two. The project began with a 16-lane flyover on Sheikh Zayed Road with the construction of two minor flyovers and a multi-phase intersection of Al Wasl and Jumeirah Roads. These road networks are designed eight meters high and stretches up to 800 meters, permitting the canal to flow freely in under it. These three flyovers were opened in the early stages of the project.
The third phase of the project includes the construction of pedestrian bridges, with kiosks and stalls on the sides of the development. Business Bay stretches 3.2 kilometers to the Gulf, with its canal’s width ranging from 80 to 120 meters, with a depth of 6 meters. The phase four of Business Bay will be featuring property developments while its phase five will feature the treatment of the hypersaline water of Business Bay lakes. This process also involves the removal of sand barriers in the canal’s course.
Aside from the ongoing property construction, there is also ongoing work for the building of a man-made crescent-shaped island along the Jumeirah Park, which will encourage outdoor and more recreational activities. The canal development work will include the filling of an island to the seaside and building a marine barrier around the island for the development of future beaches and marinas, with yachts and other marine transport means can freely travel along from Deira and Bur Dubai to Jumeirah.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) also said that there will be a construction of 12 marine stations, with five of them to be situated on the Dubai Canal, while the others will be on the Business Bay canal. It can be expected that in the coming years, marine transit will proliferate the emirate, expecting more than six million passengers to ride these water vehicles plying through the canal and of the coast of the man-made islands.
Business Bay is considered as one of the fastest growing areas in Dubai, with a rate of 5 to 7 percent per annum.
