Based on the claims of the Director of RTA’s Automated Fare Collections Systems Departments Khaled Al Awadhi: the government is trying to analyze all the information and evaluate how to roll out driverless taxis in all areas of the city. The first trial taxi was a Mercedes-Benz-E Class model cab designed with the help of Dubai Silicon Oasis and DG World for robots and artificial applications.

This trial model was an independent battery-driven taxi with four sensors at each corner of the vehicle; three cameras for the frontal, rear, and inside view; two radars on the front grille; and another radar on the top of the vehicle. The cameras are for two important functions, for example, they work as the eyes of the taxi and record the traffic and around road situation. The sensor’s function is more interesting, as they scan the surroundings about 400-meter, and 360-degree radius to provide vehicle control and prevent a collision. These sensors signal if other vehicles slowly halt or stop completely.
