Liverpool John Lennon Airport is one of the most important regional airports in the UK. It plays an important role both as a major driver of the local economy and also as an international gateway flying to 70 destinations across the world.
Since 2014, the airport has seen growth in numbers of passengers by more than 25%, with 5 million passengers per year. Liverpool has also the potential to boost its economic and social impact across the region.
Building upon its recent success, the airport has ambitious plans to fly to more destinations including long haul. The number of passengers is expected to reach 7.8 million by 2030.
These increases will require a planned investment of almost £100m in the next 10 years in additional car parking, a proposed expansion of the terminal building, passenger facilities such as hotels, food and drink services, and retail.
The growth in the number of passengers and investments in the physical infrastructure of the airport have a potential to boost the total annual GVA impact to £625 million. It also will enable airport to support more than 12,000 jobs across the City Region by 2030. It will benefit the wider Northern Powerhouse as well.
