4.7/5 - (4 votes)

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s vice president and prime minister and ruler of Dubai, laid the foundation stone for the first station of the Dubai Metro Blue Line in an official ceremony on Monday, June 9, 2025, marking one of the city’s most important infrastructure projects. This new line, known as the “Blue Line,” will be crucial in connecting different areas of the city and is expected to be operational by September 9, 2029. The project represents a significant advancement in fortifying Dubai’s public transit system.

Emaar Station: The World’s Tallest Metro Station

The unique design of Emaar Station was also unveiled during the ceremony. At 74 meters, it will be the tallest metro station in the world. The building’s golden cylindrical shape, adorned with intricate patterns, is a symbol of the splendor of modern architecture in Dubai. The station was designed by the renowned American firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), which is in charge of well-known projects like the New York Olympic Tower, Sears Tower, and the Burj Khalifa.

A Significance of the 20th Anniversary of Dubai Metro

Interestingly, the official launch of the Blue Line project will coincide with the Dubai Metro’s 20th anniversary. The metro first opened on September 9, 2009, at 9:09:09 PM, and the Blue Line is expected to open on September 9, 2029. The project’s timing lends it historical and symbolic significance.

Station Designed for 160,000 Passengers Per Day

Emaar Station can handle up to 160,000 passengers per day and has a total area of roughly 11,000 square meters. By 2040, the station is anticipated to handle over 70,000 passengers every day. It will also serve the more than 40,000 residents of the Dubai Creek Harbour area.

Commercial and Investment Possibilities in the Project

Emaar has acquired the station’s naming rights for a ten-year period, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai. In addition to being a transportation hub, the station will be developed as an integrated commercial and investment center. More information about the names of other Blue Line stations will soon be available, offering more opportunities for business and economic partnerships.

Elegant Interior Design Inspired by Nature

The station’s interior is designed to offer a luxurious and tranquil experience. The space gives passengers a vibrant and cozy feeling thanks to the use of Jura limestone, bronze metal panels, durable granite flooring, and naturally lit glass ceilings. Preserving a relationship with nature and creating a sense of “land and community” are the objectives of each design element.

Building the First Metro Bridge Across Dubai Creek

The project will also include the construction of Dubai Metro’s first bridge over the Dubai Creek. The 1,300-meter bridge will serve as a vital link between the city’s eastern and western regions.
