RTA- Roads and Transport Authority UAE is a not an unknown name. In fact, it is possibly the most resonated and recognized name within the country as it is the only entity responsible for all things development and construction within UAE. In lieu of Expo 2020 approaching in the near future, RTA is now all hands down dedicated towards renovating and reconstructing the Jebel Ali Area. Thus, RTA has already awarded two contracts for phase 5 & 6 of Jebel Ali worth Dh 630 million. The whole area would be developed in a total of 6 phases and RTA has already allocated contracts for 4 of them.
Out of all these 6 phases, phase 1 & 2 covers the infrastructural improvement of Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, the intersection with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, along with the construction a conjoint bridge Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Phase 3 & 4 will work on the upgrade of two intersections with Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road, with both Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road and Al Yalayes Road. Whereas, Phase 5 & 6 will work on the improvements of both Jebel Ali- Lehbab Road and the intersection of Emirates Road with Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road including the construction of bridges.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, RTA, in this regard was recorded stating : “The improvement of roads leading to the Expo 2020 site is one of the big projects currently undertaken by the RTA, to serve the needs of hosting the expo in Dubai. Due to the massive nature of the project, it has been split into six phases to ensure the timely completion of works, well before the expo opening. Contracts for the previous four phases had already been awarded.”
